Philippine VP Sara Duterte departs for Netherlands

MANILA - Philippine Vice-President Sara Duterte departed for the Netherlands on Wednesday, local media said.

The Office of the Vice-President confirmed that Sara Duterte left Manila at 7:40 am local time and is heading to Amsterdam, multiple news outlets reported.

The vice-president earlier said she would follow her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, to The Hague for the International Criminal Court (ICC) trial.

On Tuesday night, the vice-president tried to enter Villamor Air Base in Pasay City to meet her father but failed.

FlightRadar24, a live flight-tracking website, said on Tuesday night through social media platform that the plane carrying the former president became the most tracked flight in the world.

Meanwhile, Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos confirmed that a chartered jet carrying Duterte to the Netherlands took off on Tuesday night.

The plane is en route to The Hague in the Netherlands, Marcos told a press conference shortly after the plane exited Philippine airspace.

Marcos said that Duterte was earlier placed in government custody at Villamor Air Base in the Philippine capital after Duterte returned to Manila on Tuesday morning.

Duterte was detained on Tuesday morning on an arrest warrant issued by ICC over his "war on drugs" campaign, a move that Duterte questioned.
