BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.11 percent to 3,429.76 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.52 percent higher at 11,014.75 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at about 1.52 trillion yuan (about $212 billion), down from 1.57 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in the precious metals, ports and shipping sectors saw significant gains, while those related to games and Chinese liquor suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.61 percent to close at 2,228.64 points Tuesday.
