BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.04 percent to 3,368.7 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.05 percent lower at 10,643.82 points.

The combined turnover of these two indices stood at about 1.15 trillion yuan (about $160.27 billion), down from 1.26 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Shares in the ceramics and shipbuilding sectors saw major losses, while those related to textile machinery and chemical fiber led the gains.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.26 percent to close at 2,139.9 points.
