BEIJING - A mainland spokesperson on Wednesday reaffirmed commitment to earnestly implementing the Anti-Secession Law and enriching and improving the legal system for punishing secessionist activities.
Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, also vowed efforts to resolutely continue thwarting all attempts by "Taiwan independence" separatists, combating foreign interference, and advancing the cause of national reunification.
Chen made the remarks in response to a media query regarding attention within Taiwan on the mainland's punishing "Taiwan independence" secessionist activities in accordance with the law.

He noted that 20 years of practice since the promulgation of the Anti-Secession Law have fully demonstrated its effectiveness in deterring "Taiwan independence" separatist activities, curbing external interference, maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, promoting the development of cross-Strait relations, and advancing the reunification of the motherland.
Chen pointed out that the Anti-Secession Law clearly stipulates that the state may adopt non-peaceful means and other necessary measures to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity should "Taiwan independence" separatist forces cause Taiwan's secession under any name or by any means, or should major incidents leading to Taiwan's secession occur, or should the possibilities for peaceful reunification be completely exhausted.

"This draws an insurmountable red line for 'Taiwan independence' secessionist forces," he added.
PLA drills
Chen also mentioned that drills conducted by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) near the Taiwan island are a deterrent to "Taiwan independence" separatist plots and foreign interference, stressing that it's a "necessary and just move" to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He said the Democratic Progressive Party authorities and "Taiwan independence" forces, in collusion with external forces to seek independence and provoke confrontation, are the root cause of tensions in the Taiwan Strait, adding that any attempt to seek "Taiwan independence" by force or to seek external support for the independence agenda is a dead end.

"We have the firm will, full confidence and sufficient capability to thwart any form of 'Taiwan independence' separatist attempts," the spokesperson said.
'Lai Ching-te's true nature of terror'
Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te's 17 strategies lay bare his vile character, which is against peace, dialogue, democracy and humanity, Chen revealed.
"Lai's words and actions are aimed at inciting opposition to and confrontation with the mainland, and obstructing exchanges and cooperation across the Taiwan Strait. He just wants to wield political terror and impose dictatorship on the island," Chen told reporters in Beijing.
Unwarranted comments denounced
The spokesperson voiced firm opposition to certain countries' unwarranted comments on the Taiwan question, which grossly interfered in China's internal affairs.

Chen made the remarks while responding to a query regarding the joint statement of the recent G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting, which expressed support for Taiwan's participation in international organizations.
Relevant countries should strictly adhere to the one-China principle and support China's peaceful reunification if they really hope for peace and stability in the Strait, rather than challenge the principle and stir up trouble over the Taiwan question, Chen said.
On another query concerning Taiwan's purchase of arms from the United States, the spokesperson expressed firm opposition to any form of US-Taiwan military exchange, and urged the US side to stop arming Taiwan.
"As the DPP authorities squander the hard-earned money of the people to buy arms from the United States, disaster also comes along," Chen said.
