Iran smashes IS-affiliated terrorist group

TEHERAN - Iran's  (IRGC) smashed a "terrorist" group affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) in the western province of Kurdestan, killing all its members, the IRIB news agency reported on Monday.

The group's members, who were foreign nationals trained by the IS, sought to carry out suicide attacks in the province during Nowruz holidays celebrating the start of the new year on the Persian calendar that began on March 21 this year, a statement by the IRGC Ground Force's Hamzeh Seyyed Al-Shohada Base was quoted by the report as saying.

The members were identified by the provincial security and intelligence organizations, the report said, adding that the IRGC's operation was timely and decisive.

The report didn't specify the exact number of the "terrorists" or the date of the operation.
