JAKARTA - The shipments of Indonesian products overseas do not depend heavily on the US market, as the value of exports to the country is relatively small, a senior minister said here.
Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that China is currently Indonesia's top export destination.
The minister emphasized that Indonesia's overseas shipments are not entirely reliant on a single export destination. He noted that the value of Indonesia's exports to the United States accounts for only 2.2 percent of gross domestic product.

In terms of scale, Airlangga said that the US market contributes just 17 percent of Indonesia's total trade value. He added that the government is working to boost trade with countries beyond the United States.
"Trade with other countries, which contributes 83 percent of our total trade value, represents a significant opportunity. The US market only contributes 17 percent," he said at an event on Tuesday.
As part of its effort to broaden market access beyond the United States, Airlangga said the Indonesian government is actively pursuing a number of international trade agreements and initiatives.
