Russia removes Taliban from list of terrorist organization

MOSCOW - Russia on Thursday suspended the ban on the activities of the Taliban in the country.

"The decision of the Russian Supreme Court suspends the previously established ban on the activities of the Taliban movement, included in the unified federal list of organizations recognized as terrorist," local Tass reported, citing a judge from the Supreme Court.

The verdict will take effect immediately, said the report, adding that the court made the decision behind closed doors.

The Taliban was outlawed as a terrorist organization by Russia in 2003 and were subsequently banned from all activities in the country.
