3 out of 6 fresh COVID-19 cases on mainland imported

BEIJING - Chinese health authorities said Tuesday that it received reports of six new confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Monday, of which three were imported.

The other three new cases were domestically transmitted in Heilongjiang province, the National Health Commission said in a daily report.

One suspected case arriving from overseas was reported in Shanghai.

No deaths were reported Monday on the mainland, according to the commission.

A total of 81 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery, while the number of severe cases dropped by two to 50.

Mi Feng, a spokesperson for the commission, said that as of Monday, there had been no newly reported deaths on the mainland for 13 consecutive days.

Mi also said that Monday saw the biggest number of the discharged imported cases in a single day.

Meanwhile, Mi noted that new confirmed cases that were domestically transmitted had been reported for 21 consecutive days on the mainland.

Domestically transmitted cases with connections to imported ones and clustered infections had been consistently reported in some places, Mi noted.

Mi called for resolute efforts to break the transmission chain and guard against a domestic rebound of the epidemic.

As of Monday, the overall confirmed cases on the mainland had reached 82,836, including 648 patients who were still being treated and 77,555 people who had been discharged after recovery, the commission said.

Altogether 4,633 people had died of the disease, it said.

The mainland had reported a total of 1,639 imported cases by Monday. Among those cases, 1,087 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery, and 552 were being treated with 21 in severe conditions. No deaths from the imported cases had been reported.

The commission said that nine people, including six from abroad, were still suspected of being infected with the virus.

According to the commission, 8,014 close contacts were still under medical observation after 915 people were discharged from medical observation on Monday.

Also on Monday, 40 new asymptomatic cases, including three from abroad, were reported on the mainland. No asymptomatic cases were re-categorized as confirmed cases, and 17 people, four of whom were from abroad, were discharged from medical observation, according to the commission.

The commission said 997 asymptomatic cases, including 130 from abroad, were still under medical observation.

By Monday, 1,037 confirmed cases including four deaths had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 45 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 429 in Taiwan including six deaths.

A total of 787 patients in Hong Kong, 32 in Macao and 290 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.  

Hubei

Hubei province reported zero confirmed cases and deaths on Monday, the provincial health commission said Tuesday.

By the end of Monday, there were no new confirmed cases in the province.

Also by Monday, the province had 599 asymptomatic cases under medical observation.

A total of 282,236 close contacts of COVID-19 patients in the province had been tracked by Monday, 1,696 of whom were still under medical observation.

Hubei has so far reported 68,128 confirmed COVID-19 cases in total, including 50,333 in Wuhan.

Wuhan, the provincial capital where the outbreak took the heaviest toll in China, was cleared of all COVID-19 confirmed cases in hospitals on Sunday.
