Track and field stars join Olympic Day celebration in China

BEIJING - World athletics champion Gong Lijiao and star sprinter Xie Zhenye joined over 300 Chinese athletes in an online live broadcast to celebrate the Olympic Day on Tuesday.

Themed "Stay Strong," the online program serves as a morale booster to the athletes who are adjusting themselves to prepare for a delayed Tokyo Olympic Games. It also gave Chinese sports fans a glimpse of their idols' lives against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic and calls on them to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

The star-studded roster gathered the most famous sports stars in China from both summer and winter Olympics sports including athletics, soccer, basketball, swimming, table tennis, weightlifting, figure skating, and volleyball.

Shot-put world champion Gong Lijiao shared a tip for those watching the broadcast: Stay strong, stay healthy and stay active.

200m specialist Xie Zhenye, taught a short lesson on how to warm-up before running.

"I am in good shape now and perfectly healthy," said the 2019 London Diamond League winner.
