Chinese mainland reports no new local COVID-19 cases

BEIJING/HARBIN - The Chinese mainland reported no new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases on Sunday, the National Health Commission said Monday.

There were 19 newly reported imported cases, of which nine were posted in Sichuan, six in Guangdong, and two each in Beijing and Shanghai, the commission said in its daily report.

No additional suspected cases or deaths related to the disease were reported, it added.

Another 27 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery, the commission said, adding that there were 210 patients still receiving treatment, including one in severe condition.

By the end of Sunday, a total of 5,009 imported cases had been reported on the mainland. Among them, 4,838 had been discharged from hospitals following recovery, and 171 remained hospitalized. No deaths had been reported among the imported cases.

Overall, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland reached 89,912 by Sunday, including 85,066 recoveries and 4,636 deaths.

There was one suspected COVID-19 case on the mainland by the end of Sunday, and 4,715 close contacts remained under medical observation.

Sunday also saw 13 newly reported asymptomatic cases, all arriving from outside the mainland.

There were 254 asymptomatic cases still under medical observation, of which 249 arrived from outside the mainland.

By the end of Sunday, 11,005 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 199 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 48 cases in the Macao SAR, and 955 cases, including nine deaths, in Taiwan.

A total of 10,536 COVID-19 patients in the Hong Kong SAR had been discharged from hospitals after recovery, 47 in the Macao SAR, and 919 in Taiwan.  

Heilongjiang clears all cases

Northeast China's Heilongjiang province on Sunday saw its last COVID-19 patients discharged from hospitals, local health authorities said on Monday.

The Health Commission of Heilongjiang Province said the province now has no confirmed or asymptomatic COVID-19 cases, after no new infections were reported on Sunday.

The announcement came after one locally transmitted case and one imported case were discharged from hospitals after recovery, both in the provincial capital of Harbin, according to the commission.

Two asymptomatic carriers, one from Harbin and the other from Wangkui county, concluded their medical observation periods on Monday.

Heilongjiang saw a resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the beginning of January, but new infections began subsiding in February amid strict anti-virus measures.
