A number of activities are being held in the northern municipality of Tianjin to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

Last month, Liu Chunlei, executive deputy director of the Publicity Department of the Tianjin Municipal Committee of the CPC, told a news conference that the commemorations of the events and figures that reflect the great spirit of the Party over its 100-year history are of great importance.

"This series of events reminds communists of their original aspiration; to seek happiness for the Chinese people and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. And they have helped communists unite and lead the people to embark on a new journey to build Tianjin into a modern socialist city," he said.

Tianjin has held a number of seminars and revealed the results of some research into social issues.

All local communists are reviewing the historical events, stories and figures from China's revolution, modernization, reform and rejuvenation in a way that showcases the glorious history and achievements of the CPC.

Outstanding and senior communists will receive honors and rewards from the Party committee in July, while veterans, family members of martyrs and cadres who died in the service of the Party will be offered condolences and receive compensation.

Cultural activities including large-scale symphony concerts, new crosstalk tours, art exhibitions and lectures are also scheduled.

Activities such as large gatherings, especially of youth groups, and singing, exhibitions, readings, movie screenings and social science weeks are being planned.

The city has also created iconic large-scale themed publicity landscapes, light shows and public service announcements in key areas, creating an immersive atmosphere for audience members and the public.

"Tianjin has released 56 sites of revolutionary heritage and a list of some 7,000 antique items from the revolutionary period," said Yao Jianjun, Party chief at the Tianjin Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism. "They are vivid resources to boost Red Tourism."

He added that the bureau will also release information about a batch of Red Tourism sites and tour routes.

"A number of cultural performances are due to be held this year to commemorate the Party's centurylong journey," he said.

Educational programs illustrating the Party's historical development are in full development in the city, and many local experts, researchers and elderly Party members are taking part in them.

Guo Yudong, a 100-year-old Party member and former employee of Sinopec Tianjin Petrochemical, spoke with young staff members at a Party history event held by the company.

He shared his experiences of the company's development in the field of oil refinery production since the founding of New China.

"I'm a witness to the evolution of the city's petroleum sector and a witness of the country's arduous journey to boost its petroleum industry-both led by the Party. I'm extremely proud of being a Party member," he said.

Since Zhou Enlai, a former premier and an early promoter of communism, studied at Nankai University in Tianjin, the city has pinpointed research on his spirit as a key part of local Party educational programs.

"Zhou's life reflects a Party member's solid belief in communism, full-hearted devotion to the people and strict discipline for himself-the spirit of a noble quality that we should follow," said Xu Xingwei, director of the Zhou Enlai Research Center at the university.

At a key education class in local Party history, Xu also delivered a lecture about Zhou's life and the former premier's contribution to the CPC and the country.
