Hong Kong Customs seized about 300 kilograms of suspected cocaine with an estimated market value of about HK$260 million at the Kwai Chung Customhouse Cargo Examination Compound on Dec 22. 

The 300 slabs of suspected drugs – each weighing about 1kg – were found concealed inside 30 carton boxes of frozen chicken feet when customs officers inspected a seaborne container from Brazil at the examination compound, according to a government press release.

A 67-year-old male truck driver suspected to have link with the incident was arrested the same day at the scene. He was released after subsequent investigations.

Upon follow-up investigation, two more men – a 72-year-old in charge of a receiving company and a 38-year-old who claimed to be a private driver – were arrested in Tsing Yi and Kowloon City respectively on Wednesday. 

After investigation, they were released on bail pending further investigation, the release added.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offense. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of HK$5 million and life imprisonment.
