A relatively dry, mild March for Hong Kong

The weather in Hong Kong last month was drier and milder than usual, with the city’s monthly mean relative humidity level one of lowest on record for March, the Hong Kong Observatory said on Wednesday.

The HKO said in a statement that the monthly mean relative humidity reached only 74 percent or 8 percent below the normal of 82 percent for March and one of the fourth lowest on record for the month.

It added that the monthly total sunshine duration amounted to 143.8 hours, about 44 percent above the normal of 100 hours.

“With more sunshine, the monthly mean maximum temperature of 23.5 degrees was 1.6 degrees above the normal and one of the 10th highest on record for March,” the HKO said.

It said the monthly mean temperature of 20.1 °C and monthly mean minimum temperature of 17.7 °C were 0.6 degrees and 0.1 degrees above their corresponding normal levels.

Rainfall last month was 38.1 millimeters, about 51 percent of the normal of 75.3 millimeters, the observatory said.  

For the first three months of the year, the accumulated rainfall was 68.4 millimeters, about 54 percent below the normal of 147.4 millimeters for the same period, the observatory added.
