Guangzhou’s ‘Slim Waist’ generates 426.8m yuan in ad revenue

Guangzhou's landmark Canton Tower, nicknamed the "Slim Waist" for its elegant design, has earned 426.8 million yuan in advertising revenue from its outdoor lighting system, according to a Guangzhou Daily report.

The 2015-built tower is adorned with 70,000 LED lights spanning a total area of 6,500 square meters. Its dazzling light displays, often synchronized with other skyscrapers along the Pearl River, have become a major attraction for the city.

The tower has hosted a total of 2,799 outdoor advertisements, comprising 1,797 commercial ads and 1,002 public service announcements, Luo Jiu, general manager of Guangzhou Tower Tourism and Cultural Development Co, revealed at a recent meeting held by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.
