BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.08 percent to 3,244.38 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.94 percent higher at 10,256.4 points.
The combined turnover covered by these two indices stood at 1.18 trillion yuan (about $164.15 billion) -- up from 1.15 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to power generation equipment and electric appliances led the gains, while the coal and glass industries suffered significant declines.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.81 percent to close at 2,104.73 points on Monday.
