Guangzhou has unveiled the registration channels for its highly anticipated Chinese New Year fireworks extravaganza on Jan 29.
The city has planned a dazzling 45-minute pyrotechnics display at its new landmark Bai’etan GBA Art Center to celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Snake. Seventeen spectator zones will be set up in Liwan, Yuexiu, and Haizhu districts.
Spots in the spectator zones will be allocated via a draw. Those interested can register through WeChat public accounts of Guangzhou municipal government (中国广州发布), Liwan district government (广州荔湾发布) and WeChat mini-program or mobile phone app (穗好办). The registration will be conducted in Chinese.
Applicants, including those without mainland ID cards but holding valid documents such as passports or mainland travel permits for Hong Kong and Macao residents, can register for up to five spots for their group. The registration window will close on Wednesday night and the lucky draw results will be announced on Jan 25.
Guangzhou government suggested people who are unable to secure places in the spectator zones to watch the show online due to traffic control measures.
Alternatively, visitors can book seats on six Pearl River cruise ships, priced at 1,388 yuan per person, to enjoy a dining experience on a river cruise as well as the show.
Restaurants with river views are also offering dinner and fireworks packages. Hotels in prime locations, such as the White Swan Hotel and Guangdong Victory Hotel, have already seen high demand for their river-view dining options. Customers started to book tables in December, according to Guangzhou Daily.
