Temperatures in Hong Kong are expected to plunge again to as low as 14 degrees Celsius this coming Friday even after parts of the city recorded a high of 28°C on Sunday, according to the Hong Kong Observatory.

The HKO said the foggy and humid weather, due to a warm maritime airstream affecting the region, was expected to continue on Monday before temperatures drop progressively to as low as 14°C on Friday and Saturday.

“A warm and humid maritime airstream is affecting the coast of Guangdong. Locally, temperatures over many places rose to 25 degrees or above around noon,” the HKO said.

Temperatures in Kowloon City reached a maximum of 28.2°C while Sham Shui Po, Wong Tai Sin and Sha Tin saw 28°C. Happy Valley on Hong Kong Island also recorded 28.2°C while Peng Chau had 28.4°C.

In Tai Lung in the New Territories, the maximum temperature recorded was 29.2°C, the HKO added.

It said the city can expect cloudy weather with rain patches starting Tuesday before temperatures drop again on Wednesday, with the mercury ranging from 17°C to 20°C, due to the northeast monsoon and its replenishment.
