Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education (YCCECE) announced on Thursday the appointment of professor Kerry Lee as its new President. This appointment marks a transformative phase for the institution as it shares the College’s recent achievements and future development plans.
Lee, who assumed leadership in November 2024, brings decades of global expertise in child development and education. Recognized among the world’s top 2 percent most-cited scientists in cognitive developmental psychology, Lee aims to amplify YCCECE’s unique pedagogy and international standing.
Under Lee’s leadership, YCCECE has launched groundbreaking postgraduate programs, including a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Early Childhood Education) and a Master of Education (MEd). Notably, its PGDE(ECE) is Hong Kong’s sole program granting four professional licenses, including certification as Special Child Care Workers. The College, accredited for QF Level 6 postgraduate programs, is now developing PhD offerings and diversifying its curriculum with new undergraduate courses in child psychology and social sciences.
“These programs address rising demand for professionals in mental health and early education,” Lee emphasized, highlighting career pathways in counseling, healthcare, and social work.
YCCECE’s multicultural environment attracts students from 13 countries, with 43 percent representing non-Chinese-speaking backgrounds. To bolster global engagement, the College will introduce scholarships for ASEAN and Belt and Road nations, covering tuition, accommodation, and living expenses. Plans to offer Chinese-stream programs, including a bilingual MEd and a Chinese-taught Diploma, further underscore its commitment to inclusivity.
