BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed mixed on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.1 percent to 3,296.36 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.67 percent higher at 9,935.8 points.
The combined turnover on the stock market stood at about 1.26 trillion yuan (about $174.72 billion), up from 1.12 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to the automobile manufacturing and machinery sectors led the gains, while those engaged in the ceramics sector and tourism saw notable declines.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.08 percent to close at 1,949.16 points Wednesday.
