10 events set to further enrich HK’s Chinese Culture Festival 2025

HONG KONG – Ten concerts, dances, an operatic journey and exhibitions and lectures are set to further enrich Hong Kong’s Chinese Culture Festival 2025, celebrating the brilliance of the nation’s cultural and artistic heritage.

The China Federation of Literary and Art Circles Hong Kong Member Association Ltd (HKL&A) held on Wednesday a press conference to highlight the 10 cultural and artistic events it was organizing for the festival in partnership with the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

HKL&A President Ma Fung-kwok said that, by gathering wisdom and strength from all sectors, HKL&A meticulously planned the 10 exciting events for the festival, which will be held from June to September with over 280 performances and activities.  

Ma expressed gratitude to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government for its support and collaboration. He said that through Hong Kong—a diverse gateway for Chinese culture—the brilliance of Chinese heritage can shine even more brightly.

The ten events include Museum Series: The Sounds from Cultural Relics; Tea-Horse Road·Ballad of the Fallen Dragon; Ancient Styles·Modern Chants Classical Literature x Contemporary Dance; Melodies of Chinese Poetry; Tai Sheng and Huayin Laoqiang: Big Uncle, Second Uncle Are All His Uncles; Classics Revisited - Highlights of Peking Opera and Kunqu; Amazing Oracle Bone Script; The History and Art of Tea Exhibition; The Power of Chinese Characters; and Legacy and Vision: Conversations with Chinese Cultural Masters.

The concert Museum Series: The Sounds from Cultural Relics brings the murals of Dunhuang, the architecture of the Forbidden City, and the artefacts of Sanxingdui to life through a series of musical compositions that closely capture the essence of these artefacts.

The Cantonese drama Tea-Horse Road·Ballad of the Fallen Dragon tells a vivid story about the Tea Horse Road, which was part of a centuries-old trade network linking China with Southeast Asia and India, and life in a border town as it shifts from tranquility to turmoil towards the end of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

Rooted in Chinese classical literature and manifested through contemporary dance, Ancient Styles·Modern Chants Chants Classical Literature x Contemporary Dance harmonizes contemporary aesthetics with modern arts technology.

The Melodies of Chinese Poetry concert will bring audiences back to ancient Chinese poetry and music to explore their characteristics.  It will be hosted by Law Kar-ying, with guest artists including well-known Hong Kong singers and musicians, and accompanied by the Global Symphony Orchestra.

Huayin Lao Qiang, also known as “the living fossil of ancient Chinese music” and “ancient Chinese rock’n roll”, is a tradition of rousing, rhythmic, lusty folk singing and narration. The concert Tai Sheng and Huayin Laoqiang: Big Uncle, Second Uncle Are All His Uncles will showcase the charms of this art form.

Classic Kunqu and Peking Opera have been sustained through time to become cultural classics. The Classics Revisited - Highlights of Peking Opera and Kunqu aims to impress the audience with exciting dramas.

The Amazing Oracle Bone Script exhibition focuses on the historical development of Chinese characters, with settings that offer diverse audience experiences, breathing new life and meaning into ancient scripts.

The History and Art of Tea exhibition provides an immersive cultural experience, and features multiple thematic zones related to tea culture.

On the other hand, the exhibition The Power of Chinese Characters will showcase works of 60 Hong Kong’s most representative calligraphers and painters.

The lecture series Legacy and Vision: Conversations with Chinese Cultural Masters will present top experts from various culture and artistic fields to encourage professional exchanges through the blending of traditional Hong Kong culture and modern arts.
