China, Czech Republic bag bronze in mixed doubles curling at Winter YOG

LAUSANNE - Laura Nagy of Hungary and Nathan Young of Canada beat France, Russia pair Chana Beitone and Nikolai Lysakov 9-5 to claim first place at the mixed doubles curling competitions at the 2020 Winter YOG on Wednesday.

I think they had a very good performance. This morning's game was a struggle, however the good thing is that they earn the right for a second chance.

Hungary, Canada had a 7-0 advantage after three ends before France, Russia initiated a comeback effort in the following three ends to trail the score 5-7, but was unable to turn the tables.

In the third-place match, Pei Junhang of China, Vit Chabicovsky of Czech Republic overcame Kobayashi Mina of Japan, Leo Tuaz of France 7-3 to win a bronze.

"I think they had a very good performance. This morning's game was a struggle, however the good thing is that they earn the right for a second chance," the China, Czech Republic pair's coach Perry Marshall said.

"Despite occasional mistakes, the situation has always been good. We encourage each other, we draw on each other's strengths and there is no big fluctuation in mentality," 16-year-old Pei Junhang of China said.

"We played really well and we finally had one of our best matches. We deserved the win," Pei's teammate Vit Chabicovsky of Czech Republic said. "I have been playing curling for three and a half year and my dream is to be in Winter Olympics in the future. Today's win got me one step closer."
