HANGZHOU - Asian Games debutant Lyu Ping of China defeated Iran's Daniyal Shahbakhsh 5-0 to advance to the men's 57kg boxing round of 16 in Hangzhou on Tuesday.

Amid the cheers "Go China" from home crowd, Lyu displayed patience while gradually gaining advantage with a few punches.

"I was quite nervous before the contest, and I chose to attack with caution, because that's also the way he fights, an all-in strategy wouldn't do me good, so I decide to follow his style," Lyu said afterward.

A total of 34 qualification slots for the Paris 2024 Olympics will be awarded at the Asian Games, including 14 in men's events and 20 in women's events.

Lyu, a silver medalist at the Youth Olympic Games, revealed that he aims to qualify for the Olympics.
