HONG KONG – Victoria Habour in Hong Kong will be aglow with a display of 23,888 fireworks on the evening of Feb 11, the second day of the Lunar New Year, as part of the city’s celebrations during the Spring Festival holiday. The 23-minute performance, which is divided into eight segments, will elevate the atmosphere to its peak in the last 30 seconds with a grand finale featuring a show of fireworks in the shape of a “mega crown”.

With an aim of enveloping the city in a celebratory atmosphere while commemorating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the event will rekindle the festive spirit in Hong Kong after a hiatus of five years since its last edition in 2019.

Parade to return to Macao

The parade for the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland and the Year of the Dragon will take place on Feb 12 and 17.

The first parade, featuring floats and performances, will kick off at 8 pm on Feb 12 from Sai Van Lake Square, passing through iconic landmarks such as Av. Dr. Sun Yat-Sen and Macau Fisherman's Wharf. The second parade will take place on Feb 17, starting at 8 pm from the University of St. Joseph and Colégio Diocesano de S. José, winding its way through streets like Av. de Venceslau de Morais and Rua do Mercado de Iao Hon.

The lineup of performances will not only feature local groups but also showcase talent from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and overseas.

Embracing the festive spirit

Guangdong province is all prepared to showcase Lingnan cultural characteristics with a series of activities during the Spring Festival.

In Guangzhou, visitors can enjoy calligraphy exhibitions, book reading, games, handicrafts, flower appreciation, etc. Shenzhen will host lion dance performances, Chinese tradition culture booth displays, and a China-Chic Cosplay parade.

Zhuhai meanwhile offers handwritten Spring Festival couplets, new year-themed photo collections, rubbings, and lantern riddle guessing. Shantou presents paper cuttings, seal engraving, magic performances, and folk songs and dances. Foshan holds new-year painting exhibitions, fireworks, and more.

Valentine’s Day debut for Chubby Hearts

Chubby Hearts Hong Kong, which features a massive inflatable red heart at the Statue Square in Central, will kick off from Valentine's Day to Feb 24. Created by British designer Anya Hindmarch, this installation marks the beginning of the SAR government’s push for its mega-event economy, with a series of significant arts and cultural feasts scheduled to take place in the city this year.

Furthermore, smaller red hearts with a diameter of approximately 3 meters will appear on a daily basis at renowned locations including Flower Market in Mong Kok, Lam Tsuen Wishing Square, and the Ap Lei Chau Waterfront Promenade.
