KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia will focus on three main areas when it assumes the chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in 2025, according to the country's Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan.
These areas include security and politics, economy, and socio-cultural cooperation, Mohamad told the country's parliament on Wednesday in response to queries over the steps being taken to prepare for the role.

Mohamad said that as of June, Malaysia has lined up 257 high-level meetings involving ASEAN leaders, ministers and officials to be held next year.

He added that Malaysia will enhance people-to-people participation and ensure that the benefits of hosting are also felt by local entrepreneurs, traders and states involved in receiving guests to showcase the nation's cultural wealth and economic sectors.

Founded in 1967, ASEAN groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
