Shenzhen-Hong Kong cross-border travel hits record high

Shenzhen General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection reported on Saturday a new high in cross-border travel since the full resumption of normal operations. 

A total of 877,700 travelers passed through Shenzhen's land ports, with 478,300 inbound and 399,400 outbound, surpassing the previous peak of 866,500 on June 30.

Despite high temperatures since July, travel between Shenzhen and Hong Kong has remained robust, driving summer consumption. Recently, Shenzhen launched the “2024 Golden Bay Consumption Season and Summer Promotion Event,” leveraging the opening of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link and the summer travel surge, with over 600 promotional activities organized from June to August to stimulate consumer spending. 

Since the beginning of summer, the Shenzhen General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection has processed 16.53 million travelers, a 5.7 percent increase from June.

In Hong Kong, events such as the second “Hong Kong Happy Shopping Festival," the 34th Hong Kong Book Fair, and the "Thousand-Person Martial Arts Performance" are attracting large crowds. The Hong Kong Tourism Board has distributed 500,000 "Summer Triple Rewards" to overnight visitors since July 11, enhancing the travel experience and boosting consumption in dining, accommodation, transportation, shopping, and entertainment.

A Shenzhen port official said that to manage the high volume of summer travelers, port departments are enhancing service quality, accelerating cross-border infrastructure development, optimizing port functionality, and strengthening Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation to facilitate efficient customs clearance.
