COLOMBO - Sri Lanka's President Anura Kumara Dissanayake dissolved the parliament through an extraordinary gazette notification Tuesday midnight.
The gazette has fixed the parliamentary election for Nov 14 and the new parliament will meet for the first time on Nov 21.
The gazette added that the nomination for the parliamentary election will begin on Oct 4 and end at noon on Oct 11.

Dissanayake won the presidential election held on Sept 21 by obtaining approximately 5.7 million votes.
Sri Lanka's parliament has 225 members, and the current parliament's five-year term ends in August 2025.
