The second cross-sea mega project to open this year in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, connecting Jiangmen and Zhuhai, is scheduled to start trial operation on Dec 11.

The new crossing extends the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HKZMB) to the west and is slated to bring the eastern and western sides of the Pearl River Delta closer together.

The Huangmaohai Sea-Crossing Passage is the third world-class, cross-sea mega project in the GBA, along with the HKZMB and the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link.

Running between Pingsha, Zhuhai and Doushan, Jiangmen, the new 31-kilometer-long mega project includes a 14-kilometer-long bridge which has one service area and six lanes in either direction.

The new route will halve travel time between Jiangmen and Zhuhai from over an hour to about 30 minutes. The journey between Jiangmen and Hong Kong will be shortened to about 90 minutes.

During the trial operation period, travelling the new route will be free of charge until fees are approved.

Construction of Huangmaohai Sea-Crossing Passage started in June 2020, marking it as the first cross-sea passage project initiated following the release of the Outline Development Plan for the GBA.
