China asks Canada to revoke sanctions against companies
By Zhou Jin

China urged Canada on Tuesday to revoke its unilateral sanctions against Chinese entities for allegedly providing dual-use supplies to Russia, vowing to take necessary measures to safeguard lawful rights and interests of Chinese companies.

The Canadian government announced a new package of sanctions on Monday targeting 76 individuals and entities reportedly providing support to Russia, including more than 20 Chinese companies.

China opposes and has made serious protest with Canada over the sanctions against Chinese entities as they make no sense and are extremely preposterous, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian told a daily news conference.

"We firmly oppose unilateral sanctions that have no basis in international law or authorization of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC)," he said.

Lin stressed that China always upholds a just and objective position on Ukraine crisis and has worked for its political settlement.

"We have never provided any lethal weapons to any party of the conflict, and exercise strict export control over dual-use items," he said, adding that the scope and measures of China's export control of drones are the most stringent worldwide.

China carries out normal trade cooperation with Russia on the basis of equality and mutual benefit, which is justified and beyond reproach, Lin said.
