Xia Baolong, director of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, on Tuesday praised Macao Chief Executive Sam Hou-fai on his governance performance and his willingness to take responsibility during a meeting in Beijing.
Sam is on a four-day visit to Beijing, from Monday until Thursday. He will be presented as a guest at the opening of the third session of the 14th National People’s Congress in Beijing on Wednesday.
Xia, also director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, greeted the Macao chief executive on Tuesday morning.
Xia said that President Xi Jinping's series of important speeches during his visit to Macao in December provided clear direction for the development of the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, serving as a fundamental guideline for the two cities.

Xia commended Sam for implementing the president’s directives and the central government's decisions since taking office, and praised Sam for his proactive and pioneering initiatives and his positive and innovative leadership style.
Expressing confidence in the new-term Macao SAR government, Xia said his believes Sam will unite and lead all sectors of Macao to fully and accurately implement the principle of “one country, two systems”, properly diversify Macao’s economic structure through the development of the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and make a greater contribution to national development.
Sam thanked Xia for conveying to him the central government's expectations for Macao, and briefed him on the work undertaken by the Macao SAR government to implement the directives put forward in the president’s speech.

Sam said that the Macao government has actively collected views and suggestions from various sectors to draft a policy address for the year, with a view to promoting the sustainable development of Macao with good governance and good policies, enhancing people's well-being, and meeting the president's expectations for the Macao SAR.
