Australian govt unveils federal budget ahead of election

CANBERRA - The Australian Labor government has unveiled the federal budget on Tuesday ahead of the upcoming election.

The 2025-26 budget focuses on five key priorities: aiding recovery efforts following ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, providing financial relief to households, strengthening Medicare, investing in education, and enhancing the economy's competitiveness, dynamism, and productivity, according to Treasurer Jim Chalmers on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, speaking to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in Canberra on Tuesday, highlighted the government's commitment to building a stronger economy, reinforcing Medicare, and supporting Australians struggling with rising living costs.
