Houthi leader: No intention to damage Red Sea internet cables

SANAA- Houthi leader Abdulmalik al-Houthi on Tuesday said he has no intention to order his group to sabotage submarine internet cables connecting countries in the region.

"What was reported in some media about our intention to target submarine cables and Internet cables is confusion and distortion of our group's position toward supporting Palestinians (Hamas) against Israel," al-Houthi said in a televised speech aired by his group's satellite TV channel al-Masirah.

"We have no intention of targeting the submarine internet cables connecting to the countries of the region," he said.

"But we will remain posing a constant threat in the Red Sea to Israel, the United States, and Britain," the Houthi leader stressed.

Since November last year, the Houthis have increased their missile attacks on shipping vessels linked to Israel, as well as American and British commercial and navy ships. The group claims that these actions are in solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
