Berlin Marathon winner Mengesha triumphs in Hong Kong

HONG KONG - Milkesa Mengesha of Ethiopia showcased his prowess to clinch victory in the second edition of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Half Marathon on Sunday.

Mengesha, the reigning Berlin Marathon champion, outran Kenya's Patrick Kabirech Mosin to win in 1:01:27, just over two minutes shy of his personal best of 58:58. Mosin finished second in 1:01:30, and Ethiopia's Haftu Teklu Asefa took third with 1:02:54.

Former Boston Marathon champion Yuki Kawauchi of Japan finished 7th.

In the women's race, Kenya dominated the podium with a 1-2-3 finish. Grace Loibach Nawowuna, 21, emerged victorious with a time of 1:07:56, followed by Shelia Chenlangat with 1:08:06 and Chepngeno Viola with 1:08:09.

The event drew nearly 8,000 runners, making it a significant gathering on the world's longest cross-sea bridge and tunnel, with organizers reporting that 98 percent of participants completed the course.
