Chinese actor Wang Xing has been reported missing after losing contact near the border between Thailand and Myanmar on Friday, according to a netizen claiming to be his girlfriend.

On Sunday, the netizen posted a message on Weibo stating, "I am actor Wang Xing's girlfriend Jiajia. After joining a film crew in Thailand, he lost communication near the Thailand-Myanmar border at noon on Jan 3."

The post claimed that both she and Wang's brother had been actively pursuing the case for the past three days but had limited progress.

On Monday, a staff member from the Chinese Consulate General in Chiang Mai, Thailand, was reported by Jimu News, a news outlet of Hubei Daily, that the consulate had received a call for assistance from Wang's family on Friday.

"We responded promptly and have maintained communication with the family. We will continue to monitor the situation," the staff member was quoted. "We will do our best to protect the safety and legal rights of Chinese citizens within our capacity."

The post also suggested that Wang might have fallen victim to a scam, pointing out that other actors had reportedly received casting invitations from the same group in Thailand, which raises concerns about potential fraudulent activity.
