CBA: Shandong beats Beijing Royal Fighters, Shanxi edges Guangdong

BEIJING - Marquese Chriss scored 29 points as the Shandong Heroes edged the Beijing Royal Fighters 118-114 in the 37th round of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) here on Saturday.

Shandong led 91-84 after the third quarter and increased their advantage to double-digits in the beginning of the final quarter. The Beijing Royal fighters stormed to a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to only three points with one minute to go, before Liu Yi made a free-throw to seal the victory for Shandong.

Elsewhere, the Shenzhen Leopards upset the Guangzhou Loong Lions 104-86, who suffered a nine-game losing streak. The Xinjiang Flying Tigers eased past the Jiangsu Dragons 101-79. The Zhejiang Golden Bulls beat the Tianjin Pioneers 128-111, despite Tianjin's David James scored a game-high 41 points.

The Shanxi Loongs escaped from a thrilling final quarter to edge Guangdong Southern Tigers 117-115 on Friday. Shanxi led the game for most of the time but Guangdong had chance when they were only two points down in the final minute, only to see their hopes vanish after a 5-second inbound violation.

Elsewhere, the Beijing Ducks bagged fifth straight victory after defeating the Sichuan Blue Whales 99-83.

Defending champions Liaoning Flying Leopards eased past 121-93 Qingdao Eagles. The Shanghai Sharks edged the Zhejiang Lions 92-88. The Ningbo Rockets defeated Fujian Sturgeons 110-101. The Nanjing Monkey Kings eased past the Jilin Northeast Tigers 115-93.
