Locals encouraged to leverage national initiatives and strengthen global ties
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region should embrace new opportunities and responsibilities arising from the nation’s modernization strategy, including through its global connections, senior officials and community leaders said during recent seminars discussing key outcomes from China’s annual political gatherings.
At one such event, organized by the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in HKSAR on Monday, Director Zheng Yanxiong shared key insights from the two sessions, where national policies and future priorities were discussed from March 4 to 11.
He urged attendees, including central government officials in Hong Kong, leaders of mainland-funded enterprises in the city and Hong Kong’s representatives who attended the national gathering, to deepen their understanding of national strategies and play an active role in China’s modernization.

Zheng said that during the two sessions, the central government provided clear guidance for Hong Kong to effectively participate in the nation’s broader development plans. He urged attendees to study the key messages, embrace their responsibilities, and adopt a comprehensive perspective that aligns closely with national objectives.
He also underscored key messages from President Xi Jinping and other national leaders during the event, as well as China’s significant achievements over the past year and promising future prospects.
Looking ahead, Zheng highlighted several priorities, including promoting reform and innovation, advancing high-quality economic development, improving governance and managing risks.
Speaking separately on Monday at a local forum themed, “Insight and Opportunities from China’s Two Sessions”, Starry Lee Wai-king, Hong Kong member to the 175-member National People’s Congress Standing Committee, urged the city to strengthen its connectivity both domestically and internationally.
Lee said the central government’s annual Government Work Report, presented at the NPC’s opening session on March 5, specifically expressed support for Hong Kong and Macao to deepen international exchanges and cooperation.
Giving her interpretation of that statement, Lee said that the city’s unique position as an international hub places it at the forefront of China’s outreach efforts, including efforts to foster collaboration and friendship with Global South countries.
“I suggest that the SAR government formulate an overall strategy for how to (promote) international exchanges and invite different sectors to join,” she said.

She added that the city must strengthen connections with mainland cities and its integration with national development.
“Despite the current geopolitical tensions, which may pose challenges to achieving our goals, overall, I have confidence in our ruling party,” she said.
The seminars followed a citywide campaign to communicate insights from the two sessions, including one held at the government headquarters among senior SAR officials led by Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu, on Friday.
