HONG KONG - Hong Kong continued to be shrouded in haze on Monday as the city was experiencing a rare dusty weather.
Visibility will still be relatively low in the next couple of days under the influence of a very dry continental airstream, as well as sand and dust weather, in addition to weak winds, the Hong Kong Observatory said on Monday.
Winds will turn to the easterly on Wednesday and the dust weather will gradually ease, the weather forecaster pointed out in a note on Sunday.
According to the Environmental Protection Department (EPD), the health risk category of Air Quality Health Index at some general and roadside monitoring stations reached the "Very High" level on Monday and was expected to be "Serious" later in the day.
Due to a dusty air stream associated with the northeast monsoon, the level of suspended particulates in background pollutants had been recorded higher than normal. With the monsoon moderating gradually, weak winds were expected, leading to an increase in air pollution levels, the EPD said on Sunday.
