Hong Kong exports goods volume down 14.7% in June

HONG KONG - The volume of Hong Kong’s total goods exports decreased by 14.7 percent year-on-year in June, according to data released by the city’s Census and Statistics Department on Thursday.

The volume of goods imports for the month also dropped 15.5 percent compared to the same period last year.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the volume of goods exports decreased 2.5 percent in the second quarter compared with the preceding quarter, while the volume of goods imports also declined 2.0 percent, according to the data.

Comparing the first half of 2023 with the same period in 2022, the volume of goods exports fell 18.7 percent, while that of goods imports dropped 16.2 percent.

Prices of goods exports for the period increased 4.4 percent, while that of goods imports rose 3.8 percent.

In terms of the export performance by main destinations, the total export volume to the Chinese mainland fell by 16.6 percent year-on-year in June, while the volume to four other major destinations, namely Taiwan region (-12.8 percent), the United States (-25.4 percent), Vietnam (-4.7 percent) and India (-13.6 percent) all saw declines from a year ago.
