RIYADH/TEHRAN – Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud and the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian reviewed bilateral ties in the Saudi city of Jeddah on Friday.
The meeting was held on the sideline of the first official visit of the Iranian top diplomat to the kingdom since the two countries agreed to restore diplomatic relations in a China-brokered deal in March.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed bilateral ties, future opportunities for cooperation between the two countries, and ways to develop them, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The visit came after China announced on March 10 that Saudi Arabia and Iran reached a deal, including the agreement to resume diplomatic relations and reopen embassies
Saudi Arabia is determined to improve relations with Iran and has adopted a strategic approach toward its ties with the country, said the Saudi crown prince.
For his part, Amir-Abdollahian conveyed greetings and appreciation of the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and the crown prince.
According to a statement released by the Iranian foreign ministry, the minister stressed Iran's determination to expand relations with Saudi Arabia and other regional states, adding Iran and Saudi Arabia can help promote further growth and prosperity in the region through expanding all-out cooperation.
They also discussed regional and international developments and related efforts.
Amir-Abdollahian arrived in Riyadh on Thursday and met with his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. He then left Riyadh for Jeddah in the early hours of Friday.
The visit, a reciprocal one in response to the Saudi foreign minister's visit to Tehran in June, came after China announced on March 10 that Saudi Arabia and Iran reached a deal, including the agreement to resume diplomatic relations and reopen embassies and missions within two months.
Iran reopened in June its embassy in Riyadh.
