HONG KONG - John Lee Ka-chiu, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, on Saturday strongly condemned some US lawmakers' attempt to put Hong Kong officials, judges and prosecutors on a so-called "sanction list."

Those lawmakers made the request through a so-called "bill" to include the secretary for justice, the secretary general of the committee for safeguarding national security of the HKSAR, the commissioner of police, and a number of judges and prosecutors in a so-called list of "sanctions" in an attempt to intimidate the HKSAR personnel concerned who safeguard national security.

Lee told the media that the purpose of the US lawmakers was to intimidate judges, prosecutors and Hong Kong officials, especially judges, trying to influence fair and impartial trials and rulings, which was a serious obstruction of justice

Lee told the media at the Hong Kong International Airport before leading a HKSAR government delegation to Shanghai that the purpose of the US lawmakers was to intimidate judges, prosecutors and Hong Kong officials, especially judges, trying to influence fair and impartial trials and rulings, which was a serious obstruction of justice.

Their act of perverting the course of justice is not only a violation of the rule of law, but also a violation of judicial independence that the US claimed to be guaranteed by its constitution, he added.
