Shenzhen and Hong Kong are embarking on building a “Hong Kong-style” private hospital near Shenzhen’s Luohu port to provide healthcare services for Chinese mainland and Hong Kong patients and enhance medical talent and technology exchanges.

Jointly built by the Luohu District People’s Government and Hong Kong’s C-MER Eye Care Group, the port hospital will open its doors in July, said Dennis Lam Shun-chiu, lawmaker and C-MER’s founder, at a media reception on Wednesday.

The medical institution, a five-minute walk  from the Luohu land crossing, will become the first port hospital adopting Hong Kong-style medical services. It will have about 20 beds as well as departments of dentistry, ophthalmology, medical imaging, health check, gynecology, traditional Chinese medicine, internal medicine, surgery and urology at the start of its operation, Lam said.

More departments, such as intensive care units, are expected to be introduced within the next one to two years, Lam said, adding that the hospital plans to provide over 100 beds in the long run.

Spanning over 10,000 square meters, the hospital will provide Hong Kong’s medical technologies and services for residents in Shenzhen, Hong Kong and even the entire country, Lam said.
