UAE mediates exchange of 300 prisoners between Russia, Ukraine

ABU DHABI - The United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced on Wednesday the success of its latest mediation efforts between Russia and Ukraine, which resulted in the exchange of 300 prisoners of war.

According to a statement by UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the swap included 150 prisoners from Ukraine and 150 from Russia.

With this latest mediation, the total number of prisoners exchanged between the two countries under UAE's mediation efforts has reached 2,883, the ministry said.

The statement further highlighted that, with the successful completion of this mediation, the UAE has facilitated a total of 12 successful mediations between Russia and Ukraine since the beginning of 2024.

The ministry reiterated the country's commitment to supporting all diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine, while also alleviating the humanitarian consequences of the crisis, including the plight of refugees and prisoners.
