HK Customs seizes suspected cocaine worth HK$180m

Hong Kong Customs has seized about 230 kilograms of suspected cocaine with an estimated market value of about HK$180 million in an industrial building unit in Kwai Chung.

A 53-year-old man suspected of being connected with the case was arrested on Aug 30 in Tai Kok Tsui. He was later released on bail pending further probe, according to a statement of Hong Kong Customs

Customs officers said in a statement that they raided the targeted building unit on Aug 29 and seized 190 bricks – each weighing about 1.2 kilogram – of suspected cocaine therein.

A 53-year-old man suspected of being connected with the case was arrested on Aug 30 in Tai Kok Tsui. He was later released on bail pending further probe, according to the statement.

An investigation is ongoing.

The Customs believes its operation has successfully intercepted the inflow of the batch of drugs to local markets.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offense. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of HK$5 million and life imprisonment.
