HONG KONG - Two prominent Chinese scientists in satellite navigation and lunar exploration shared their experiences with a captivated audience at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University on Thursday morning.

Xie Jun, deputy chief designer of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) and chief designer of the system's third-generation satellite, and Zhang He, executive director of the Chang'e 4 probe project, shared their insights with Hong Kong students, scientific researchers and scholars.

Along with positioning, navigation and timing services, the BDS system can provide a variety of value-added services like global search and rescue assistance, short message communication, ground- and satellite-based augmentation, as well as precise point positioning.

On the other hand, the Chang'e 4 made the first-ever soft landing on the far side of the moon in human history on Jan 3, 2019.

The talks are part of a series of activities scheduled during the five-day visit of a high-level delegation that includes six of the nation’s top aerospace experts.
