The Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on Wednesday expressed strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to the White House's extension of the so-called "national emergency with respect to Hong Kong".

A spokesperson for the office, in a statement, said that the US falsely claimed that the so-called "situation in Hong Kong" posed a threat to US national security. The US continued to impose unilateral sanctions on Hong Kong, ignoring international principles and basic norms governing international relations, he said.

Under the protection of the National Security Law for Hong Kong and the new electoral system, the Hong Kong SAR government and all sectors of society have made great efforts to write a new chapter

He added that the US has repeated its old trick of abusing the concept of national security to link Hong Kong to US’ “national emergency”.

The action unreasonably interfered in China's internal affairs and Hong Kong affairs, the spokesperson added. .

The spokesperson pointed out that the central government adheres to the principles of "one country, two systems", “Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong”, and “Hong Kong enjoying a high degree of autonomy”. The central government upholds the unity of its overall governance and the high degree of autonomy of the SAR.

Under the protection of the National Security Law for Hong Kong and the new electoral system, the Hong Kong SAR government and all sectors of society have made great efforts to write a new chapter, the spokesperson added.

The spokesman stressed that a lie can never be turned into a truth, and that the US sanctions will be futile. The historical trend of Hong Kong cannot be reversed, and the sonorous pace of "one country, two systems" cannot be stopped, he said.
