The Hong Kong Conservation Association on Tuesday launched the city's first "Butterfly Garden Certification Program" to mark the National Ecology Day. 

The event aims to provide certification services to butterfly gardens organized by schools, communities, and institutions to ensure that those organizations can establish and maintain effective natural habitats for butterflies to inhabit and reproduce, with the hope of enhancing biodiversity.

A butterfly garden provides food and shelter for butterflies at all stages of their life. Its essential elements include offering edible plants for butterfly larvae, plants for butterfly nectar, and proper sunlight, according to the Fung Yuen Butterfly Reserve.
