'Second integration' crucial for China's modernization
Xi Jinping Thought on Culture is the sublimation of the cultural advancement of the Communist Party of China and a reflection of the adaption of Marxist cultural theories to the Chinese context in the new era.
Xi has called for the integration of the basic tenets of Marxism with traditional Chinese culture, also known as the "second integration", which builds on the CPC's "first integration" of theoretical synthesis — the integration of the basic tenets of Marxism with China's specific reality.
The "two integrations", especially the "second integration", are crucial for China's modernization. They point us to the development path of Chinese civilization while overcoming the challenges of industrial civilization, and the aggression and bullying of Western powers since the First Opium War (1840-42), especially since the foundation of the CPC in 1921. In particular, the integrations tell how to handle the relations between traditional culture, modern culture and Western culture.

Xi's thought will take us forward on global stage
Since the beginning of the new century, China has witnessed a significant historical shift in its cultural industry and global cultural influence. It all started at the Fifth Plenary Session of the 15th CPC Central Committee in 2000 when the idea of developing the cultural industry and taking Chinese culture to the global stage was introduced.
The real breakthrough, however, came in 2011 during the Sixth Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee when it was explicitly stated that the cultural industry should be nurtured as a pillar industry of the Chinese economy. By 2020, the cultural industry was contributing at least 5 percent to China's GDP, consolidating its status as a cornerstone industry of the Chinese economy.
And now Xi Jinping Thought on Culture represents the practical and theoretical crystallization of the cultural development of the preceding two decades. It is a critical combination of Marxism and traditional Chinese culture.
As we stand at a new historical starting point, Xi Jinping Thought on Culture will provide us with a road map for the construction of a modern Chinese civilization. More important, it will help us realize the second centenary goal of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation by the middle of this century.
In a world that is experiencing unprecedented changes and challenges, China finds itself at the forefront of the mobile internet era. Simultaneously, the digital economy has become a powerful growth engine for the national economy. As President Xi said, the Party must triumph in the internet field to ensure long-term good governance.
China must rely on itself and its unique experiences to move forward. And Xi Jinping Thought on Culture provides strategic guidance needed to overcome the challenges and move forward.
Besides, since the turn of the century till now, the goal of cultural development has evolved from "Chinese culture going global" to the country having a say commensurate with its standing in the global cultural landscape. This is where Xi Jinping Thought on Culture can play a particularly crucial role.

People more confident about Chinese culture
Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012, under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, the Party has inherited and integrated the fine elements of traditional Chinese culture with Marxist cultural theories, and transformed the essence of traditional Chinese culture, while instilling among the people a strong sense of confidence in Chinese culture.
Hence, the Chinese civilization has once again unleashed the spiritual strength of traditional Chinese culture in the new era, providing new cultural elements for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and sublimating Xi's concept of cultural development with Chinese characteristics in the new era. Xi Jinping Thought on Culture, which is based on the development of traditional Chinese culture in the new era, is a combination of Marxist cultural theories and Chinese cultural tenets.
Xi Jinping Thought on Culture is a powerful theoretical tool that will advance the adaptation of Marxist cultural theories to China's real conditions in the new era, in order to regain the rightful place of Chinese culture on the global stage.

Thought will help build a modern socialist country
The development of socialism with Chinese characteristics has been driven by the CPC's strong sense of cultural confidence and rich practical experience since the 18th CPC National Congress. And Xi Jinping Thought on Culture is the theoretical fruit of Xi's idea of cultural advancement.
To advance Chinese culture, the requirements include strengthening the Party's leadership over public communication and cultural work; developing a socialist ideology that can unite and inspire the people; cultivating and applying core socialist values; strengthening the penetration and credibility of the media and their ability to guide and influence the people; developing and transforming fine traditional Chinese culture; vigorously developing the cultural sector and enhancing international communication capacity; and promoting exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations.
Xi Jinping Thought on Culture will help us achieve breakthroughs in cultural theory and practice, both at the macro and micro levels, and realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. It is the result of the integration of Marxist cultural theories with China's fine traditional culture.
In short, Xi Jinping Thought on Culture will provide strong spiritual strength to build a modern socialist country and realize the great national rejuvenation.
