HONG KONG - The Commissioner's Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the malicious slander on the 7th District Council Ordinary Election of the HKSAR made by British and European Union officials and some consulates-general in Hong Kong, firmly condemning their gross interference in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal affairs.
A spokesperson for the office said on Monday that the 7th District Council election of the HKSAR has come to a successful conclusion, marking a crucial step towards fully implementing "patriots administering Hong Kong," improving district governance, and moving towards good governance.
The election is procedure-based and has been carried out in an orderly, fair and just manner, and the 399 candidates put in their best efforts in terms of morality, agendas, ability and motivation, demonstrating the culture of a clean and honest election, the spokesperson said.

It is believed that the new-term District Councils, under the overall leadership of the HKSAR government, will be able to serve as a bridge between the HKSAR government and the people of Hong Kong, unite the Hong Kong society to work together for a better Hong Kong, and further consolidate the social foundation of Hong Kong's order and prosperity, said the spokesperson.

According to the HKSAR Basic Law, the DCs have never been "organs of political power" nor are they the so-called "representative institutions." The HKSAR government's reforming of the DC system is conducive to fully implementing the principle of "patriots administering Hong Kong," excluding anti-China disruptors and helping DCs to remove the defects of pan-politicization so as to return to the original role of providing services to districts, which has been widely welcomed and supported by all sectors of Hong Kong society.
The spokesperson pointed out that some Western countries, whose own democratic systems are fraught with deficiencies, attempt to interfere in the District Council election in the name of democracy, which seriously violates the principles of international law and the basic norms governing international relations, and seriously interferes with the normal and orderly development of democracy in Hong Kong.
