DAMASCUS — Two Syrian military personnel were killed on Friday in an ambush carried out by the Islamic State (IS) group in the central province of Homs, according to the local Sham FM radio.

According to the report, the soldiers fell victim to an ambush orchestrated by the IS while conducting a routine patrol near the White Valley Dam in the eastern countryside of Homs.

The attack is the latest in a series of deadly assaults carried out by IS militants in the desert region in central and eastern Syria.

The IS group has lost key areas in Syria but its fighters have opted to reposition and guerrilla warfare in the sprawling desert region.
