Orchestral evolution
By Wang Zhan
The Hong Kong Baptist University Academic Community Hall will host the university's Symphony Orchestra Annual Gala Concert 2024 over April 19 and 20, 2024.
During a dress rehearsal on Thursday, iconic pieces such as Turandot Overture, Dance of the Yao People, Butterfly Lovers' Violin Concerto, and Lion Hill Symphonic Metamorphosis captured the evolution of Chinese orchestral music.
"Both Dance of the Yao People and The Butterfly Lovers are rooted in the traditions and culture of Chinese music while incorporating elements of Western symphonic music," Johnny M Poon, music director and conductor of the HKBU Symphony Orchestra said in a press statement.
The visual effects tailored exclusively for this concert headlined by violinist Yao Jue leverage machine learning algorithms to turn the concert hall into an immersive audiovisual environment.
